Direct primary care is an interesting model that cuts insurance out of the healthcare equation. Direct care is a model in which patients pay their provider directly, rather than using a third-party like insurance or Medicare.
This reduces cost by eliminating insurance markup and hidden fees. Dr. Buls is also available for emergent and urgent cares. For example, one trip to an urgent care can cost you upwards of $250. Or a trip the emergency room can cost $1500. One trip to the emergency room can cost you more than you monthly premiums for the year.
We recommend that you do maintain some form of insurance, much like your car insurance, for catastrophic events like surgery or accidents. A health cost sharing plan (such as Christian Health Ministries) works nicely for this option and is generally less expensive than traditional insurance. You may also find low-premium/high deductible catastrophic options when looking at Non-ACA (Affordable Care Act) plans, which often have prices similar to health cost sharing plans. Most of your outpatient care needs can be done in the clinic and are covered by your monthly fee.
We have the ability to do some basic point of care lab work within our office. Most lab work will be drawn in our office and sent out to an associate lab for a negotiated cost to our patients. This cost will be far less than bill you have seen in the past through traditional models of care. Patients may submit bills to insurance companies for reimbursement.
